Here a photographer’s dream is truly your delight!

A short direct train, bus, bicycle or car journey from Edinburgh, North Berwick is a gem of a place to live, visit and holiday in. Wonderful landscape, seascape and gannet photographs by local photographer Ian Goodall capture the magic and charm of the “Biarritz of the North”. Here a photographer’s dream is truly your delight!

Ian Goodall has been taking pictures, initially with black & white film followed by colour slides - remember the family slideshows? - until the arrival of digital, for more than fifty years. His photographs of nature, people, local events and news have been widely published in the press. Prestigious magazine East Lothian Life regularly features his photographs and the front cover of the magazine’s Spring 2020 edition was one of Ian’s spectacular “diving gannets” photographs. Ian is a Council member of Edinburgh Photographic Society, secretary of North Berwick Photographic Society and is a life member of Godalming Photography Club where from 2003 to 2012 he was the committee member responsible for designing and maintaining the club’s website.

Several books on North Berwick, the Isle of May, the Bass Rock and its Glorious Gannets are published by Ian Goodall. Every year there’s also a popular full-colour planner & diary calendar - current edition: North Berwick 2022 Calendar - with large-format (A4) seasonal photographs of the local area. From Ian’s large original vintage postcard collection we’ve created a range of ‘county’ calendars from around the UK taking us on a journey back to a bygone era including, locally, East Lothian Nostalgia Calendar 2022 and Edinburgh Nostalgia Calendar 2022.

The fifth edition of Goodall’s Guide to North Berwick & East Lothian is the definitive and essential guidebook for visitors and travellers is available in shops and online.

Over the years Ian has built up a large postcard collection of East Lothian and Edinburgh, including many by the renowned historian and artist RP Phillimore, who lived in North Berwick for many years and produced over 600 different postcards in the early 1900s. Some of Ian’s postcards are included in two of his books: From North Berwick with love and Wish You Were Here in North Berwick: Book Two. Watch this space for details of a new book featuring many of Ian’s old postcards to be published early in 2022: Wish You Were Here in East Lothian and Edinburgh: Book Three.

The modern version of a postcard which was the social media of its day, is the new and unique photobook known as a PostBook. Ian’s latest creative concept and design packs several large photos into one ‘card’ (postage is at the lowest UK letter rates) which is a full-colour mini-book. There are ten different PostBooks in the series each containing 12 or16 pages. Would you like something a bit different from your usual, a Christmas card and present rolled into one? Choose from two PostBook Christmas cards packed with seasonal snow and landscape scenes.

Sonamara Publishing also produce an extensive range of ‘conventional’ cards and Christmas cards, featuring scenes and views from in and around North Berwick. Ian Goodall’s books and cards are available in local North Berwick stockists. UK Nostalgia Calendars are available online (Amazon & eBay) and from local stockists in many areas too. Books are also available on Amazon worldwide.

We had intended launching a shopping channel on this website but decided instead our books and calendars would be better being sold through Amazon.

Enjoy - online and in print - and appreciate our exceptional range of seascape and landscape photographs and old postcards too.
